Section 112.18, Florida Statutes, also known as the Heart/Lung Bill, creates a rebuttal presumption of occupational causation for disabling heart disease, hypertension, and tuberculosis suffered by firefighters, police officers, correctional officers, and correctional probation officers who meet certain prerequisites. Decades of litigation involving the interpretation of the Heart/Lung Bill have resulted in case law that is both enlightening and confusing. This program aims to break down the elements of the Heart/Lung Bill in simple and straightforward terms.
